The Magic Lantern:
Selected Poems by Afanasy Fet

co-translation with Alex Tullock

(Columbia University Press, forthcoming)

Hailed as one of Russia’s greatest lyric poets by the giants of Russian literature (Tolstoy, Dostoevsky, Mandelshtam, and Nabokov, to name a few), Afanasy Fet (1820—1892) was a highly influential figure in 19th-century Russian literature. This new collection features translations of Fet’s most celebrated works, as well as some lesser-known gems. It includes a wide range of love poems, nature poems, elegies, philosophical poems, and poems inspired by Greek and Roman mythology. Printed as a bilingual edition and featuring extensive notes, as well as an introduction by International Booker Award Finalist Maria Stepanova, this volume will appeal to poetry lovers, students, and scholars alike.
